I teach both beginning and intermediate levels of guitar. For beginners, the first thing I do is to get them to play, to have fun with the guitar. Learning songs is one of the best ways to improve your playing.

For the students that already know how to play, I will also teach them theory. Knowing the fundamentals is very important. For example, how to form a triad and all other chord forms, how to improvise, how to play in different keys, etc. And if your a songwriter, you will improve your songwriting skills.

l teach ear training to my students so they can recognize chords and chord progressions. The goal is that the student is able to transpose songs into another key on the spot and to have the ability to play everything he or she hears.

I believe that every student is different so I don't follow a rigid lesson plan. I teach my students towards the style of music that they want to learn -- classic rock, blues, alternative, country, funk, etc.

Some students are more interested in songwriting and may want to concentrate on chord progressions. Other students may want to be killer soloists and some play music just for fun. In the end, the student will get to a higher level of skill and enjoyment when playing the guitar.

All you need to bring is your guitar and if you have an electric guitar, bring the guitar, the cord and strap (no need to bring an amp)
